30 December 2023. In this BBC Weekend programme, Shiva Rahbaran discusses the continuing resistance of Iranian people and artists against the oppressive Islamic Regime despite the scant media coverage due to the world’s attention being veered off to Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza. She discusses the wars in Ukraine and Gaza in light of Woman-Life-Freedom Uprising and its impact on the public opinion in Iran about these wars. She gives a nuanced explanation about why Iranian people’s view on these conflicts is not synced with the rest of the Middle East and the Islamic World.
Shiva also talks about the extent to which the #MeToo movement made an impact in Iran followed by comparing the allegations against Gerard Depardieu in France and the solidarity of Iranian filmmakers for Iranian women’s cause, such as Dariush Mehrjuii, who was brutally murdered along with his wife in October 2023 after he helped his wife take off her scarf on a documentary about his oeuvre.
